The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) has presented Andy Nielsen, CPA, CGMA of Ankeny, Iowa, with its 2019 Outstanding CPA in Government Career Contribution Award honoring his dedication to the profession.
“Each year, the AICPA Outstanding CPA in Government Awards seeks to find standouts in a room full of standouts,” said Kimberly Ellison-Taylor, CPA, CGMA, AICPA Former Chairman. “Andy has led our profession to new heights and in doing so has earned not only nominations from his peers, but also our esteem and respect. We continue to recognize and celebrate outstanding individuals who have faced the challenges of working in government and shown themselves to be exceptional.”
The Outstanding CPA in Government Career Contribution Award recognizes a member’s significant contributions to the CPA profession through government service at the local, state or federal level over a candidate’s career. Award winners must have demonstrated exceptional leadership, high ethical standards, and a track record of professional excellence.
Nielsen has distinguished himself through his significant contributions at the federal, state and local government levels, including 38 years at the Iowa Auditor of State’s Office. Nielsen retired in December 2018 as Deputy Auditor of State where he dedicated his professional career to the State of Iowa. He spent countless hours training and mentoring governmental CPAs, auditors, accountants, city and county clerks, and elected officials.
Andy received the Iowa Society of CPAs Public Service Award in May 2019 for his long-term involvement in the Society and the Iowa State Auditor’s Office and his strong degree of responsibility to all Iowa CPAs.
