It’s the just the beginning of tax season, but most tax professionals likely already have a digital pile of client returns that are “in progress,” and will likely remain that way for weeks or months. Not because the firm hasn’t gotten to them yet, but probably because they are still waiting on clients to send them additional documents.

The Internal Revenue Service has announced the selection of three new members and a chairperson to the Electronic Tax Administration Advisory Committee (ETAAC).

The Information Technology Alliance recently announced new members this week during the annual ITA Fall Collaborative. The organization is an independent professional association comprised of most of the nation’s top 30 accounting firms, premier technology consultants and leading technology vendors serving the accounting profession.

A Tulsa man pleaded guilty Tuesday to a federal wire fraud charge connected to his embezzlement of nearly $700,000 from his then-employer by billing it for the nonexistent services of a consulting firm he created.

In his new role, Carlson, who has led KPMG's St. Louis office since 2008, will be responsible for the strategic direction and growth of the area offices. He assumes his new role on Dec. 1, succeeding Candace H. Duncan, who will retire after 35 years with the firm.

Some of these accountants are suited for and satisfied with that role, but there are many others who recognize that the market demands a more proactive, advisory approach with clients.
